What We Collect
We collect information you provide directly when you create an account, enroll in a class, subscribe to a membership, or post in the community. This includes your name, email address, payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we never store raw card details), and any profile details or posts you choose to share.
We also collect limited usage information — which lessons you’ve viewed, your progress through a course, events you’ve registered for, and community activity — so we can save your place, show accurate completion status, and keep notifications relevant.
How We Use It
- To provide the service — giving you access to the content you’ve purchased and the live sessions you’ve registered for.
- To process payments via Stripe, and to issue receipts.
- To send you transactional messages about your account, purchases, upcoming live sessions, and course progress.
- To occasionally email you about new classes, membership features, or program updates. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time; transactional emails (receipts, password resets, renewal reminders) are required for the service to function.
- To improve the program — looking at aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns to understand what lessons resonate and what to build next.
Who We Share It With
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information with trusted service providers who help us run the platform:
- Supabase — stores your account, enrollments, and progress data.
- Stripe — processes payments for classes, bundles, mentorship, and recurring membership subscriptions.
- Mux — hosts and streams our lesson videos.
- Email provider — delivers transactional messages and course announcements.
- Video-conferencing (Zoom / similar) — for live mentorship sessions. Your name and email may be used to grant access.
These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and only receive what they need to do their job.
Classes vs. Memberships
We distinguish between two kinds of paid access, each with different data handling:
- Classes, books & mentorship are one-time purchases. We retain your enrollment, progress, and cohort data for the duration of the program and a reasonable period afterward so you can revisit recordings and materials.
- Memberships involve ongoing subscription data, community interactions, feedback submissions, event RSVPs, and activity history. We retain this for as long as your membership is active. After cancellation we keep core records (purchase history, posts you authored) for as long as needed for accounting and the integrity of the community archive; you can request deletion of personally-identifying information at any time.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We don’t use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. You can control cookie behavior through your browser settings.
Your Rights
You can view and update your profile information at any time through your account settings. You can request a copy of your data or deletion of your account by emailing us. Deletion removes your account and personally-identifying information; some transactional records (receipts, purchase history) may be retained as required by law or for accounting purposes.
Children
Designing Stories is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy over time. Significant changes — especially those affecting how your data is used or shared — will be announced by email to registered users.
